Materials:
- Red felt
- White pom-poms
- Wooden button plugs
- White faux fur (short nap)
- Black paper
- Hole punch
- Fabric scissors
- Christmas ribbon (at least 2” thick and wired)
- Hot glue and glue sticks
Wooden Santa Logs:
- Logs 3-5” in diameter
- Miter saw
- Sandpaper
- Pencil
- Straight edge
Pool Noodle Santa Logs:
- Wood grain contact paper
- Scissors
- Cardstock (in a skin tone)
- Serrated knife
Instructions:
To Ceate Your Wooden Logs
1. Take your logs and make sure they are level on the side you will use on the bottom.
2. You want to make sure that the bottoms are level, so they stand up straight. To do this, make a level cut on your miter saw. You may have to do this a couple of times to get the angle correct.
3. Once you have three logs that are level on the bottom, mark with a pencil how tall you want each of them to be. *since we have three choose a small, medium and large. *
4. Once you’ve marked the sizes, adjust your miter saw so that the top blade is at 30 degrees.
5. Cut all three pieces at the 30-degree angle at their various heights.
6. If the wood splinters at all or is rough, take some sandpaper and sand any rough edges.
To Create Your Pool Noodle Logs
1. Mark the desired heights of your “logs” on your pool noodles and cut them all at an angle to height.
2. Cut a length of your contact paper, remove the backing and roll the pool noodle on. Trim away any excess material. *make sure the grain of your “wood” is vertical on the pool noodle. *
3. Repeat step 8 for all of the logs.
4. Trace the angled face of your log onto the cardstock, cut it out and glue it on.
5. Repeat this to finish all of the logs.
To Decorate Your Logs
1. Use your fabric scissors to cut santa hat shapes from the felt and glue a white pom-pom to the tip of each hat.
2. Glue the hat onto the top of the angled face of your santa log.
3. Cut strips of the white fur for the hat and glue it onto the bottom of the hat.
4. Cut santa beard shapes and glue onto the bottom of your santa log’s face.
5. To create the eyes, punch holes out of a black piece of paper and use the circles punched out of the holes. Glue them on.
6. Take a wooden button plug and glue it onto the face of your santa, sitting into the top of the beard a bit so it looks like it hangs over. Repeat on all the logs.
7. Use the Christmas ribbon to tie the logs together with a big bow and enjoy!
